Tasmania’s unrivalled natural environment is a key driver in our nation-leading visitor economy and the Freycinet Peninsula is one of our most popular tourism destinations.
The Hodgman Liberal Government understands we must protect what is special about our way of life so it can continue to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike, and the new Freycinet Master Plan sets out a sustainable future for the National Park and surrounding communities.
The Plan has been developed in partnership between the Parks and Wildlife Service, the Department of State Growth, Glamorgan Spring Bay Council, East Coast Tourism, the Freycinet Association Inc. and the Freycinet Destination Action Plan group, as well as with input from the community.
The Master Plan identifies five key initiatives, including:
- a new Visitor Gateway location with staged development to address traffic and car parking concerns;
- a network of transport solutions, including a shuttle service;
- improved wastewater management;
- ‘Experience Nodes’ to disperse visitors; and
- Developing a new Entrance Corridor.
The Master Plan has undergone significant consultation, including two rounds of public consultation, and is the blueprint for how we will future proof the area, deliver a high quality experience for those visiting the region and protect those things that make the region special in the first place.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of regional tourism, and is committed to driving greater visitor dispersal to the regions, increased length of stay and higher spend per visitor.
We appreciate as visitation to our parks increases, so must our investment in parks infrastructure, that’s why the Government is investing $31 million over four years to future-proof our tourism infrastructure and enhance the experiences for locals and visitors.
The Freycinet Peninsula and National Park is a place of spectacular beauty, with special natural and cultural values which the Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to protecting for locals and future generations.
