Beechworth’s Historic Precinct will undergo a number of important upgrades thanks to a grant of almost $90,000.
Indigo Shire Council successfully secured the funding through the Victorian Government’s Regional Collections Access Program, which will see CCTV upgraded across the precinct and the Burke Museum’s heritage display cabinets extended to allow the museum’s full taxidermy collection to be displayed for the first time.
Burke Museum and Cultural Heritage Manager Cameron Auty says, “This is a really exciting opportunity to have more of the museum’s collections on display, as well as to upgrade the security of our heritage spaces. It’s an important investment from the Victorian government in the preservation of Indigo Shire’s cultural heritage.”
“We’ve recently launched an extended education program and the People of Beechworth exhibition, so this upgrade opportunity has come at the perfect time as we see more and more people visiting the precinct and museum.” Mr Auty said.
