Funding Boost for Safe House in Wadeye

NT Government

The Northern Territory Government has delivered a funding boost to the Wadeye Safe House to deliver critical infrastructure upgrades and to retain specialist staff.

The $557,000 of funding in the eight-bed safe house covers additional security cameras and fencing, as well as upgrades including a children’s play area, new fans in common areas and kitchen fit out.

The funding has also guaranteed that the safe house operator, One Tree Community Services, can continue to employ a wellbeing support worker and critical outreach worker.

One Tree Wadeye Safe House provides emergency accommodation and support for women and children experiencing domestic violence.

Since opening in 2011, the service provider has provided crisis accommodation for up to 90 women and children each month.
