Nine community groups across the Northern Grampians Shire will share in a $32,400 funding boost thanks to council’s community grants program.
The Health and Wellbeing Grants provide financial support of up to $5,000 to locally based groups and organisations to develop opportunities that will improve the lives of people in our region.
Here are each of the successful applicants for the 2019 round of grants:
- Halls Gap Caravan Park and Recreation Reserve Committee Inc.
- For the Halls Gap Community Sports Precinct Stage 1. To develop a Concept Plan for the tennis court site and allow the committee to seek funding through state and federal governments.
- North Central LGBTIQ+ Network
- To provide a live performance called ‘Being Frank’ which follows the journey of a school student coming out as a transgender young person. This play ran in Stawell in 2017 and was well received.
- Paradise Hall Committee
- For the replacement of old kitchen cupboards and benches in the hall kitchen. The Paradise Hall is well used for community get-togethers at least once a month as a way of staying connected in the small but vibrant community.
- Eventide Homes
- For installation of a playground for kindergarten students, playgroups, families, and residents’ grandchildren to have a shared space to come together as part of the Intergenerational Wellbeing Project.
- Stawell Senior Citizens Club
- For the replacement of old and worn stage curtains and front rooms to enhance the aesthetics of the building which is used nearly every day of the week.
- Stawell West Primary School
- For benches around the school grounds to create a space that’s comfortable, inviting, friendly and is an excellent way to get students interacting with one another and supporting their peers.
- Stuart Mill Recreational Reserve Committee
- For outdoor tables and seating to provide an area to accommodate a diverse range of age groups.
- WAMA Foundation (Wildlife Art Museum of Australia)
- For the ‘biggest science experiment’, a community science project that will run from February to May 2020. It will encourage and support individuals, groups, families, schools, organisations and businesses to get involved in science projects during this time. These science projects will be documented on a webpage and showcased in a Science Expo on 4 and 5 May 2020, along with displays from local scientists.
- Youth Cricket Club
- For covers for Central Park cricket wicket. The covers will allow more cricket to be played across the summer months and grow participation in sport.
Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor, Cr Murray Emerson, said the grants encourage positive developments in the region and help improve residents’ quality of life.
