Further Consultation underway on new Sub Regional Land Use Agreement

The Territory Labor Government is investigating key land parcels to support further population growth.

Budget 2021 invests $15 million over the next five years in planning works for population and industry growth.

This includes making more than 5000 new residential lots available for the creation of new suburbs.

To make sure we have positive growth which keeps up with demand, the Northern Territory Planning Commission has released the first draft of the Holtze to Elizabeth River Subregional Land Use Plan (HESLUP) for public comment.

This is the second of a three-stage process to develop a subregional land use plan for the wider area including Greater 11 Mile, Greater Holtze, Virginia South-West, Archer and Mitchell West.

Consultation will run until 26 November and is an opportunity for the community to provide feedback on the first draft of the land use plan.

The Holtze to Elizabeth River Subregional Land Use Plan will be a plan for the long-term, identifying and confirming strategic corridors for main roads, rail and utilities, and shaping the pattern of future land uses.

Key aspects of the first draft HESLUP include:

Infrastructure to support the projected increase in population, including areas earmarked for residential and rural living opportunities;Opportunities to protect the environment and recreational value, including the remnant pine forest at Howard Springs North for open space and recreational activities;Relocation option of the rail network and Darwin Passenger Rail Terminal to better support industry development; andCorridors for main roads, including identifying and preserving corridors out to Glyde Point and South to Weddell as required.

The Territory Labor Government is investing $1.1 million this year to further work on land use planning, land investigations, concept planning and the design of enabling infrastructure.
