Detectives have charged a further two men over their alleged involvement in a home invasion in Sydney’s south last month, during which another man was shot in the face.
About 9.10pm on Saturday 13 June 2020, two men – one armed with a firearm – allegedly entered a unit at Levey Street, Wolli Creek, and threatened a group of people, before pistol-whipping one man and shooting another in the face.
The pair stole mobile phones, personal items and cash before leaving the area in a vehicle.
The 38-year-old man, who was pistol-whipped and rendered unconscious, did not seek medical assistance.
The 35-year-old man, who was shot in the face, was taken to St George Hospital and underwent surgery. He has since been released.
The incident was reported by hospital staff to local police the following day (Sunday 14 June 2020).
Officers from St George Police Area Command, together with detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad, commenced an investigation under Strike Force Blyth.
So far during the investigation, detectives have charged two men. They remain before the courts.
Following further inquiries, strike force investigators executed three search warrants at homes at Burwood and Homebush from 9am yesterday (Tuesday 21 July 2020).
During the searches, officers seized mobile phones and other items relevant to the investigation.
Two men – aged 23 and 34 – were arrested at homes at Burwood and taken to Burwood Police Station, where they were both charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon cause wounding (grievous bodily harm).
Police will allege in court that the younger man was the driver of a vehicle used in the incident, while the older man facilitated access to the Wolli Creek unit block.
Both men were refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Wednesday 22 July 2020).
