Caloundra Regional Gallery announced its 2020 exhibition program today, a diverse and inspiring program that will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of the gallery.
There’s a focus on Indigenous Australian art, a celebration of internationally renowned ceramicist Johanna DeMaine, the prestigious Sunshine Coast Art Prize, an exploration into our idea of the urban landscape in Constructed Landscapes, plus a glimpse into the process of art in public spaces.
A celebratory program in August will commemorate the 20th anniversary of Caloundra Regional Gallery, where the history of the gallery will come alive through art and entertainment as well as an exhibition featuring favourites from the Sunshine Coast Art Collection.
Arts Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the gallery’s diverse exhibition program offered an inspiring art experience for all.
“Since opening its doors in 2000, Caloundra Regional Gallery has grown to become a must visit destination for local art lovers and visitors alike, and what a fitting year to celebrate the 20th anniversary milestone in 2020,” Cr Baberowski.
“The gallery team has once again put together an outstanding program of exhibitions this year that will appeal to a wide range of audiences.
The gallery officially opened on August 11, 2000. Several sites across Caloundra were investigated, with the original library building in Felicity Park chosen as the preferred site. This site on which the gallery now sits was owned by Maurice and Felicity Stiensen and their residence ‘Felicity Cottage’, built in the early 1940s, was located at 22 Omrah Avenue.
Caloundra Regional Gallery curator and manager Jo Duke was thrilled to unveil the 2020 program.
“I’m very excited to be working with such a dedicated team in a place where, not only is the environment extraordinary, but the calibre of the artistic community is extremely high,” Ms Duke said.
“To profile both is both a challenge and a joy.”
The exhibition program is enhanced by the gallery’s wide range of public programs and events for people of all ages and abilities – from Kid’s Art Attack and Toddler Wednesdays, to artist talks, workshops, and; the Mindful Art program for people living with dementia and their carers, and the ArtReach program that travels to residential care facilities.
