Games demonstrate mine rescue capability

Crews from across the country descended on Bendigo recently to take part in the Victorian Mine Rescue Competition.

Over three days, teams competed in simulated scenarios that tested critical aspects of emergency response including underground rescue skills, firefighting, first aid and technical rope rescue.

Held at Fosterville Gold Mine and the ISH24 Training Facility in Goornong the competition is an important part of the industry’s preparation to deal with the unlikely event of an emergency at a Victorian mine.

The event also provided opportunities for mine operators to share response methods and their approach to training.

Organised by the Minerals Council of Australia since 1993 the competition is supported by the Victorian Government and the state’s emergency response agencies.

The results of the 2022 Victorian Mine Rescue Competition are available at the Minerals Council of Australia website.
