Gel blaster, drugs, counterfeit drivers licenses seized; man charged at Hamilton, NSW

A man has been charged with fraud and weapons offences following an investigation in Newcastle.

About 6.30am yesterday (Thursday 31 March 2022), officers attached to the Police Transport Command – with assistance from Operation Utah officers – executed a search warrant at a home in Hamilton in relation to an ongoing fraud investigation.

During the search, police located and seized several items including a replica pistol, ammunition, an extendable baton, two motorcycles believed to be stolen, cash, methylamphetamine, ecstasy and cannabis. Officers also located and seized false documentation and drivers’ licenses.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Newcastle Police Station.

He has been charged with 42 offences including obtain benefit by deception, possess identity info to commit indictable offence, unlawfully possess thing resembles Australian driver’s license, make false document, goods in custody, possess unauthorised firearm and possess prohibited weapon without permit.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Friday 1 April 2022).
