Brimbank Council invites community members to come along to a movie fundraiser featuring the original classic Jumanji on 26 January to raise more funds for bushfire relief.
The 1995 Jumanji movie starring Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst and Bonnie Hunt will be screened at Kevin Wheelahan Gardens in Sunshine. The movie is PG rated, and families are welcome. Entry to the movie will be by cash donation.
Brimbank Mayor, Cr Georgina Papafotiou said the movie fundraiser is another way Brimbank was supporting the communities devastated by the ongoing fires in the east of the State.
‘We’re trying to do what we can to assist, and fundraising for bushfire relief is one of our top priorities at this point.
‘I hope our community takes up this opportunity to support a very worthy cause and enjoy an absolutely classic movie at the same time.
‘I’d also like to thank the companies who are supporting this fundraiser,’ Cr Papafotiou said.
Council’s fundraiser is supported by RTR Productions, Excel Events, Melbourne Cool Room Hire, Splashdown, and Generator Rentals Australia
The fundraiser will run from 6-9pm, with the movie scheduled to start at 7pm. The movie will be screened in a marquee at the Kevin Wheelahan Gardens that seats approximately 400. Barbecue food and drink will be available for purchase. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own refreshments.
All donations or purchases need to be cash only, no EFTPOS will be available. All money collected on the day, which includes donations to see the movie and the money raised through sales of food and drink will go to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund.
No receipts can be issued for donations made on the day. However if anyone wishes to make a tax deductible donation, they may donate directly to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund or to the State Government’s Victorian Bushfire Appeal by donating at any Bendigo Bank branch or online.
Council has already kicked off its bushfire support by donating $10,000 to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund on behalf of the Brimbank community. Community members can also drop a donation in the collection tins available at various Council facilities. All donations made here will go to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund.
The Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund is a registered charity that provides immediate short-term funds to Gippslanders affected by natural disaster events. 100 per cent of donated funds will go directly to communities in need.

As part of its relief support, Brimbank Council will absorb any event permit fees for community groups and community members who wish to hold fundraising events supporting registered and not-for-profit organisations that provide bushfire relief funding or activities.
Brimbank Council has also offered practical and resource assistance to the affected shires and is willing to help in any way it can.
