Good grants news for Logan community groups

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Minister for Women and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence The Honourable Shannon Fentiman

Community organisations across Logan will share in more than $270,000 from the latest round of grants from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF).

Member for Logan Linus Power shared the good news today and congratulated the 14 successful recipients.

“These grants deliver projects and services that really benefit our local community,” Mr Power said.

“This valuable funding will be used for projects such as new equipment for the Little Athletics Centre in Jimboomba, new plant growing facility at the Yarrabilba State Secondary College and upgrades to the canteen at the Cornubia Park Netball Association.

“The Palaszczuk Government is extremely grateful for the role the organisations play in supporting minority groups, creating opportunities, and fostering community spirit and connectivity.”

Member for Macalister Melissa McMahon said across the State almost $11 million is going to 448 not-for-profit community groups in the latest round of the program.

“We want to support our local community groups to thrive,” Ms McMahon said.

“It’s great to see HELP Employment will be able to purchase a new bus, Sewing for Charity is using their grant to purchase an embroidery machine and the Eliminators Hot Rod & American Car club will be able to install solar power and a new fridge thanks to the grants.”

Denver Fresser, Group Chief Executive, HELP Enterprises, said that it plans to use the GCBF grant of $35,000 to purchase a mini-bus for our Employment and Training offices in the Logan area.

“The mini-bus will be used to bring disadvantaged jobseekers including Indigenous and other groups to attend educational training workshops where they will acquire skills required to gain employment,” Mr Fresser said.

“Our workshops cover topics like learner’s driving training, how to apply for a driver’s licence and skills to save money for their own transport. They can also learn about resume writing, job search and interview skills. The training improves individual’s employability skills, increasing their mobility to engage and attend job interviews.

“We are extremely grateful for the funding. It will help tackle transport disadvantage which is a key barrier for jobseekers in the Logan area to gain access to supports HELP can offer them on their employment journey, and a job itself.”

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Shannon Fentiman reminded organisations that round 112 is open for applications until 31 October and that we are just one round away from 2022’s round 113 – the super round.

“Next year is an exciting year for the GCBF, with the first-time inclusion of a super round when grants of up to $100,000 will be up for grabs,” Minister Fentiman said.

“I can’t wait to see the fruits of the hard work of these community groups, with a little help from their GCBF grants, in the future.”
