Government incompetence spreads to transit centre

Tasmanian Labor

The Liberal Government’s incompetence to deliver infrastructure projects is on full show, with the replacement of the Devonport Transit centre with a shipping container.

Labor Member for Braddon Shane Broad said the container, with no toilets and nowhere to store luggage or get information, is completely inadequate and is yet another example of incompetence from the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Michael Ferguson.

“The Government’s failure to deliver infrastructure across Tasmania goes beyond major projects,” Dr Broad said.

“The fact is Minister Ferguson can’t even build basic amenities like a bus shelter.

“Mr Ferguson didn’t back away from his description of a chopped-up shipping container as “probably the best transit centre in the state” proving he is out of touch.

“The Government failed to consult the community on this project and have shown the 15,000 passengers who use this facility each year that they cannot be relied upon for even basic infrastructure.

“How can this Government possibly be trusted to deliver $1 billion in infrastructure each year when they have not only failed to deliver major projects in the south, but also in the north and north west?”
