Labor is hoping the Government will break free of its appalling track record on infrastructure and get on with much needed investment in major infrastructure projects in Tasmania.
Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Shane Broad, said Labor supported the Government’s renewed focus on infrastructure and hoped it would now deliver.
“Labor knows the building and construction sectors are vital for jobs and our economy and the Government needs to work harder to get important projects completed in a more seamless way to provide certainty and ongoing work for the sector,” Dr Broad said.
“Unfortunately, many major government projects were in disarray before the pandemic hit. Since 2016 the Liberals have been unable to get $600 million of promised infrastructure out the door.
“From the airport roundabout, to the Hobart bus mall, Mac Point, Derwent ferries, the fifth lane on the Midland Highway, TT-Line replacement, the Bridgewater Bridge, and the bridge across the Tamar – the Liberal Government’s big promises on infrastructure have fallen woefully short on delivery.
“We hope the Government will now listen to the building and construction industry’s cries for help and deliver on its promises outlined in its new infrastructure package.
“For the sake of our state, for the sake of this sector and for the sake of the people who rely on these jobs, the Government needs to get on with it.”
