Governor’s Multicultural Awards acknowledge South Australians working towards cultural integration

Multiple South Australian individuals and groups have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to multiculturalism in our state through the Governor’s Multicultural Awards.

The recipients of this year’s awards include Sowaibah Hanifie, who has been acknowledged in the Media category for her commitment to reporting on issues affecting migrant communities in South Australia.

Medical practitioner Dr Hamoudi Neshmi Aldyni received the award for Outstanding Individual Achievement for his work with migrants and refugees living in rural and regional South Australia.

Premier Steven Marshall said the awards celebrate the social, cultural and economic benefits that migrants and refugees bring to our state.

“These are amazing South Australians who have demonstrated dedication and selflessness to further strengthen our communities and create a more inclusive and cohesive South Australian society,” said Premier Marshall.

“The passion they show reminds us how the dedicated work of individuals and organisations can transform communities, bridge cultural divides, and foster mutual respect and understanding between people from diverse backgrounds.

“In sharing their skills, knowledge and expertise to promote and support culture and diversity, they have contributed to a richer and more vibrant South Australia.”

His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC, Governor of South Australia, says it has been his great pleasure to support these awards since their creation.

“I am very proud of how these awards have acknowledged and celebrated the achievements of many outstanding South Australians, from all walks of life and backgrounds, for over a decade,”said His Excellency.

“They have made a significant contribution to raising awareness of the many benefits of cultural diversity to our society and way of life.”

Assistant Minister to the Premier, Jing Lee MLC says these awards shine a light on the crucial contributions of diverse cultures to our state.

“South Australia has a unique brand of multiculturalism where our inclusive blend of cultures become our greatest strength,” said Assistant Minister Lee.

“We cherish and recognise the rich tapestry of our culturally and linguistically diverse community and extend our heartfelt congratulations to the winners and finalists of the 2018 Governor’s Multicultural Awards.

“The outstanding contributions from individuals and multicultural organisations demonstrate a remarkable commitment to enrich South Australia as a vibrant and harmonious State which we are proud to call home.”
