Plans to upgrade Gracemere’s Waste Transfer Station will commence in coming months with Council set to award the tender for the redevelopment project.

In the lead up to the redevelopment, Council has spent the last 12 months capping what was the former Fitzroy Shire landfill which operated from 1984 – 2015.

Council’s Waste and Recycling Councillor Shane Latcham said the new facility is expected to be complete by Christmas, pending any delays.

“This will be a great project to have finalised and I am sure the residents of Gracemere will appreciate having a new transfer facility,” Cr Latcham said.

“Council will complete the capping project over the next two months, which essentially seals off the former landfill site completely.

“This also includes capping the ground on which the existing transfer station sits, so before we close the current transfer station, we will build a temporary station that will be fully operational so we can continue operating without disruption.

“I’d like to thank our residents in advance for their patience and understanding while we build this new facility for your and our future.”
