The Victorian Government is supporting the welfare of veterans and their families to ensure their sacrifices are remembered by future generations.
Acting Minister for Veterans Luke Donnellan recently announced grant applications are open thanks to the ANZAC Day Proceeds Fund and the Victoria Remembers Grant Program.
“We’re ensuring Victoria’s veterans and their families – who have sacrificed so much to ensure all Australians can enjoy safety, freedom and peace – have the support and recognition they deserve,” said Minister Donnellan.
ANZAC Day Proceeds Fund
Under the ANZAC Day Proceeds Fund, organisations that support the wellbeing of the veteran community can apply for funding for a range of welfare support activities – including health and wellbeing programs, education expanses and transport for shopping, social activities and welfare needs.
Previous recipients include Soldier On Victoria, which in 2020 received $50,000 to help veterans secure a future career through employment and education support.
The fund is generated through proceeds of sporting events held in greater Melbourne on ANZAC Day, along with a proportion of the tax the government collects from wagering and betting companies in April.
Victoria Remembers Grant Program
Grants of up to $30,000 are available through the Victoria Remembers Grant Program. The program supports projects that honour or commemorate veterans’ service or inform the community about the significant contributions veterans have made.
Last year, the Australian Commando Association of Victoria received more than $16,000 to create a digital oral history archive, recording the experiences of Victorian veterans.
Applications
Ex-service organisations, local government authorities, not-for-profit organisations and educational institutions are all encouraged to apply.
“Whether you can support veterans with employment and education, or you have an idea to honour their service or help inform the Victorian public about their sacrifices, we encourage you to apply for one of these grants.”
Applications for both grant programs close at 5pm on Monday 23 August 2021.
