The Cook Labor Government is providing $100,000 in sponsorship for inclusive community events and activities to celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) 2023.

IDPwD is a United Nations-sanctioned day that is celebrated on 3 December every year. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability, and celebrate their achievements and contributions.

Disability Services Minister Don Punch today announced that the Department of Communities has funded disability peak body Developmental Disability WA (DDWA) to provide grants of up to $1,000 for community organisations to celebrate IDPwD in 2023.

Local government authorities, community groups and non-government/not-for-profit organisations are eligible to apply for funding.

Successful applications will include initiatives and events that aim to raise awareness, educate, and inform the broader community about people with disability.

The funding supports the vision of the State Disability Strategy 2020-2030 – to build a more inclusive Western Australia and empower people with disability to participate meaningfully in all parts of society.

Applications close on 22 September 2023 and successful applicants will be notified and announced in late October. To apply go to Developmental Disability WA

As stated by Disability Services Minister Don Punch:

“International Day of People with Disability is a significant date on the calendar to highlight the importance of access and inclusion and promote the part we all play in building an inclusive community.

“It’s also equally important as a day to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with disability.

“These grants will support events and activities that help raise awareness of people with disability.”
