Four community organisations will share in more than $52,000 in funding and fee waivers after Townsville City Council approved a new round of Community Grants at this week’s Ordinary Council meeting.
The successful applications support a diverse range of initiatives that strengthen community connections, celebrate culture, promote inclusion and enhance wellbeing across Townsville and Magnetic Island.
Council has today approved funding for:
- India Fest Townsville – $25,000 cash
- Townsville Eisteddfod – $25,000 fee waiver
- Access Support Services’ A Christmas to Remember – $1,145 cash
- Magnetic Island Women’s Shed – $1,296 fee waiver
Mayor Nick Dametto said Council’s Community Grants program played an important role in helping local organisations deliver events, programs and services that enriched the city.
“These grants support a fantastic mix of cultural celebrations, youth arts opportunities, inclusive community events and wellbeing programs that make a real difference in people’s lives,” Cr Dametto said.
“Council is proud to back the organisations and volunteers who work hard to bring these initiatives to life and create opportunities for people to connect, learn and participate in their community.
“Whether it’s celebrating multiculturalism through India Fest, encouraging young performers through the Townsville Eisteddfod, creating an inclusive Christmas event for people living with disability, or supporting social connections for women on Magnetic Island, each of these projects delivers tangible benefits for our community.
“We were very pleased to support them in the chamber today and look forward to their respective events and activities taking place throughout the year.”
The $25,000 cash grant provided to India Fest Townsville will go towards staging their 2026 annual event, to be held on August 15 at Riverway, supporting key event infrastructure including staging, sound, lighting, accessibility, public safety measures and traffic management.
Townsville Eisteddfod Inc will receive a fee waiver to support the delivery of the 76th Annual Townsville Eisteddfod from September 5-26 at the Townsville Civic Theatre, providing young North Queenslanders with opportunities to showcase and develop their artistic talents.
Access Support Services will use its funding to deliver A Christmas to Remember, an inclusive end-of-year celebration held in December for people living with disability, their families, carers and support networks.
The Magnetic Island Women’s Shed will receive a venue fee waiver to support its ongoing program of activities at the Horseshoe Bay Community Rooms, where it runs weekly sessions focused on mental wellbeing, social connection and community participation, including craft activities, workshops, digital literacy training, technology support and fitness programs.
