The Public Guardian and Trustee have launched a new Advance Personal Planning assistance service.

These changes provide certainty and security for Territorians, making it easier to access support and to connect with other government services, including the My Health Record.

The Finocchiaro CLP Government will continue to reduce red-tape to support everyday Territorians.

Planning for the future is set to become easier for Territorians, as the Public Guardian and Trustee launches a new Advance Personal Planning assistance service.

The new service will provide hands-on support to help people understand the process of appointing a decision-maker, should they find themselves unable to make important decisions in the future due to an accident, injury, or illness.

Territorians will be able to register their plan with the Public Guardian and Trustee, free-of-charge, and importantly, can now upload their plan to their national My Health Record.

Attorney-General, Marie-Clare Boothby said the changes were about providing certainty and security for Territorians, and improving access to services and support.

“We want to see Territorians planning for the future with confidence, especially as they confront what can often be a confusing or challenging time,” Minister Boothby said.

“These changes will ensure that the support that Territorians need isn’t out of reach – giving them a simple way to connect with the Public Guardian and Trustee and those other services like the national My Health Record. It’s a bit of a one-stop-shop.”

“It’s all about streamlining the process to provide Territorians with certainty and security in their forward-planning, retirement, and long-term care.”

Territorians can avoid the in-person queues or time spent on the phone, by booking online for:

• Advance Personal Planning assistance appointments

• Will preparation or update appointments

• Will storage requests

• Will collection requests

Those existing service options remain available for those who prefer to use them, with phone calls and in-person options still available to Territorians.

The Territory’s Public Guardian and Public Trustee, Beth Walker said the changes would help streamline service delivery and improve access.

“The Public Guardian and Trustee delivers important will-making, estate and future planning services to Territorians across the Northern Territory,” Ms Walker said.

“These changes make it easier for Territorians to make a booking, access information and connect with our services when and where they need them.”

“We want to make planning ahead as practical and accessible as possible, helping Territorians navigate some of life’s most important decisions.”

“We encourage every adult Territorian to think about having an Advance Personal Plan and a valid Will in place. Taking the time to plan ahead can provide peace of mind and ensure your wishes are known and respected if circumstances change.”
