Green Connect Illawarra launches new ‘Pick Your Produce’ Fruit and Veg Boxes

Green Connect Illawarra

Award-winning Warrawong permaculture farm and social enterprise, Green Connect, has launched new ‘Pick Your Produce’ Fruit and Veg Boxes to provide the Illawarra community with more choice and flexibility.

Green Connect sells organically grown produce harvested from its 11-acre urban farm to locals through its online store, with seasonal fruit and vegetables available as subscription boxes or one-off purchases, along with add-ons like free-range pork and eggs, pure honey, and bouquets of fresh flowers. The Pick Your Produce Boxes are an additional product line, expanding the range of fair food Fruit and Veg Boxes available.

While the flagship ‘Seasonal Mixed Box’ is a lucky dip, filled with a variety of produce from the farm’s weekly harvest and produce sourced from certified organic growers, Pick Your Produce Boxes give customers full control; people can build their own box by selecting the fruit, vegetables and herbs they’d like to include, with three box sizes to suit solo cooks, couples, and families. It’s an accessible, flexible option that caters to a wide range of people, opening the door for more locals to eat sustainable, ethical food grown in the Illawarra.

All Fruit and Veg Box purchases support Green Connect in its mission to create employment opportunities for people with barriers to employment, including young people, refugees, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, in work that is good for people, good for the planet, and good for the Illawarra community.

Robert Servine, Green Connect General Manager, says, “We’re excited to add Pick Your Produce Boxes to our suite of Fruit and Veg Boxes; now everyone in the Illawarra can find an organically grown box of local produce that works for them while supporting our mission to create jobs for local people”.

Lindsay Burlton, Green Connect Fair Food Coordinator, says, “Customers love our Mixed Boxes; each box is a gift of inspiration that encourages them to try new produce and cook new dishes. But for those who like to plan their meals, have food intolerances, cook for picky eaters, or grow some of their own veggies at home, Pick Your Produce Boxes provide the flexibility they need; it means more locals can reap the benefits of our farm-fresh produce”.
