This Sunday, June 5 is World Environment Day and one of the best ways to learn how to be more environmentally conscious is through a workshop happening at the Community Environment Centre at Annangrove.

Residents can now book their place at one of the Centre’s many workshops happening this June and July, including when to best plant and propagate plants according to the moon phases; choosing native plants for small spaces; understanding more about composting and worm farming; a kids nature art workshop; and how to build a habitat garden that will entice native critters and much more.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi encouraged residents to sign-up to secure their place.

“The Hills Shire has many beautiful parks, reserves and natural environments and it’s so important that we protect these places for future generations,” Mayor Gangemi said.

“So in light of World Environment Day on Sunday, now is the perfect time to consider how we can become more environmentally conscious.”

“Our Community Environment Centre is the perfect way to learn about how we can be more environmentally sustainable.”

“The Centre has demonstration gardens, including both a food and a native garden. There’s also fun and interactive sustainability workshops and residents can also volunteer at the Centre. It’s the perfect opportunity to grow your garden guru, make friends and learn vital skills that you can take back and use in your own home,” Mayor Gangemi added.

World Environment Day is a United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect the environment.

This year’s campaign #OnlyOneEarth calls for global action to both protect and restore our planet.

Meanwhile, the Community Environment Centre is open on a Thursday, between 9am – 4pm. Residents are encouraged to come down and check it out for themselves.
