Griffith City Council is seeking public submissions from residents, property owners, developers and key stakeholders to guide the growth and development of Griffith over the next 25 years.
Council would like to understand how the public, including landowners, wish to see their lands developed in the future taking into consideration issues or constraints with existing zoning or development controls.
Submissions are also welcomed on more general issues to do with the growth of Griffith, including:
- Issues with the existing strategic planning strategies and plans
- How, where and when Griffith should grow?
- How prime agricultural lands should be best used?
- Where employment lands should be developed
- Environmental protection and conservation
- Land use conflict.
Griffith City Council Mayor, Councillor John Dal Broi said that Council is preparing a new planning framework to guide the growth of Griffith to 2045 and it is important that the community is intimately involved in the process.
“Genuine consultation and feedback from the community will help to ensure the framework provides a clear and easily understood vision of how Griffith will grow in the coming years,” said Councillor Dal Broi.
“Everyone in the community who has a vision for the future development or their lands is invited to provide a submission which will be considered by both Council staff and elected Council.”
Sustainable Development Director Phil Harding, said the outcome of the Growing Griffith to 2045 Project will be a clear and consistent planning framework to guide the way land use is managed across the Griffith local government area and how Griffith will prosper as a crucial regional centre.
“It is important that our strategic plans are amended and updated to reflect an evolving economy, new infrastructure developments including the construction of the Southern by-pass and a vital need to protect prime agricultural lands,” he said.
Council is keen to ensure the following new and updated plans are drafted in a manner which reflects the community’s views and a shared vision for how Griffith will grow to 2045:
- Griffith Local Environmental Plan 2014
- This is the existing ‘zning plan’ for Griffith. It sets out where and how Griffith can be developed now.
- Griffith Land Use Strategy: Beyond 2030
- This strategy identifies where and hw Griffith should grow in the future
- Griffith Local Strategic Planning Statement
- This is a new strategic dcument being prepared by Council. It will represent the vision for the future growth of Griffith and has been required to be prepared by every Council in the state by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.
Submissions should include a contact name, address and telephone number. Submissions made on behalf of a company should also include the names and addresses of all company directors. Submissions can be made on Council’s website at www.griffith.nsw.gov.au
