Gurri Wanyarra celebrates successful first year

The Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre will celebrate its first birthday this weekend.

City of Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Margaret O’Rourke said Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre had exceeded all expectations in its first year of operation.

“It’s been a hugely successful first year with more through the doors and many more memberships sold than what was originally projected,” Cr O’Rourke said.

“In the first year there has been over 410,000 attendances at the centre, more than 3,400 memberships have been sold and over 900 students have enrolled in learn to swim programs.

“The community has really embraced the facility and the City is more than pleased with the results of the first year.

“Gurri Wanyarra is an incredible one-stop-shop for recreation, health and wellbeing. It caters for people of all ages and abilities by supporting them to have fun, stay well and reach their fitness goals.

“The centre is also leading the way in offering healthy food and drink options at its Swell Café.

“It is a facility for Greater Bendigo and all of central Victoria. It is a place where babies and children can grow their water confidence, people nursing an injury can rehabilitate their bodies and elderly people and those with a disability can safely interact with the water.

“The state-of-the-art gym facilities also provide a great incentive to get fit and active.

“The first year has been an amazing outcome for Greater Bendigo residents and the wider community.”

To celebrate the first birthday there will be $10 entry for families on Saturday October 26 between noon and 4pm.
