There will be plenty of action along the sands of Glenelg today as the iconic Adelaide beach plays host to 400 handball players and officials from 45 nations.
Minister for Sport, Recreation and Racing, Corey Wingard, said he was looking forward to seeing the high velocity event at the Bay.
“It is no surprise that such an entertaining and vibrant sport would choose a location like Glenelg to host one of their biggest events of the year,” Minister Wingard said.
“The players and their officials will bring an economic boost to shops and hotels and provide some fast-moving fun for tourists and locals alike.”
“I urge South Australians to get to Glenelg and support the Australian side as they compete for a place at the World Beach Games in the US later this year.”
The event will take place from today to Sunday February 24 on the southern side of Glenelg jetty from 8am each day.
The 400 players and officials, representing 45 teams from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, American Samoa, Cook Islands and Kiribati, will take part in four days of competition.
Games will feature men’s, women’s and mixed teams.
Teams from Oceania are vying for a place at the inaugural 2019 ANOC World Beach Games in the US, and 2020 World Championships in Italy.
