  • Second stage of construction complete at Harrisdale Senior High School
  • 30 classrooms and specialist learning facilities are among the new facilities
  • Additions enable the school to accommodate a further 925 students
  • Premier Mark McGowan and Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery joined local MP Yaz Mubarakai today to mark an important milestone in the construction of Harrisdale Senior High School.

The second and final stage is now complete, complementing the already impressive facilities of the school which opened in 2017. The McGowan Government also contributed a further $4 million to add a second storey to a teaching building.

New additions include 30 general classrooms, two inclusive education rooms and three seminar rooms. The completion of stage two enables the school to accommodate an additional 925 students.

A range of specialised facilities are also ready, including an arts area with three studios for drawing, ceramic and print making; media studios and classrooms; a performing arts theatre; green rooms; a bio box room for operating equipment; a dance studio; lecture theatre; and a hockey pitch. A food studio has also been added, enabling staff to deliver certificate level VET hospitality courses.

Facilities for student services and staff studies, additional hard courts, store rooms, toilets and parking complete the construction.

There are currently 1,260 students at Harrisdale Senior High School in Years 7 to 10.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“Harrisdale Senior High School has been designed to create the best learning environment for young people.

“These are very impressive facilities and the school community is excited to make the most of the learning opportunities they deliver.

“My Government is committed to making sure all students, regardless of where they live, have access to the very best learning facilities.”

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“This is another exciting milestone for Harrisdale Senior High School.

“These facilities will provide exceptional new learning opportunities for students, and it doesn’t stop there.

“A new STEM centre will also open at the school this year and provide innovative technologies to complement the current science, engineering and maths programs.”

As stated by Jandakot MLA Yaz Mubarakai:

“The completion of Harrisdale Senior High School stage two has been a fantastic and timely addition to our ever-growing community.

“Many parents have spoken to me about their concerns for their children’s job prospects in the future.

“As a parent myself, I share their concerns, which is why I am proud to be able to respond by saying that we’re preparing their children for the jobs of the future through providing state-of-the-art STEM facilities at Harrisdale SHS.”
