Hawthorn Football Club renewal

Nic Street, Minister for Sport and Recreation

Following confirmation of in-principle agreement on commercial terms for a 19th licence the Tasmanian Government has today informed the Hawthorn Football Club that it intends to extend the partnership for a further 12 months on the same terms as the 2022 season.

We have been close partners with Hawthorn for 22 years, and we look forward to that continuing through 2023 where we will see four matches played in Launceston.

The Tasmanian brand will continue to appear on Hawthorn apparel and they will continue their fantastic work in the community.

Hawthorn support our push for a team of our own and beyond 2023 we know they will play a key role in transitioning to our inaugural season.

There is a lot to learn from the huge impact they have had in the state – especially the north – and we know that their commitment remains strong.

Just last week both Hawthorn presidential hopefuls were in Tasmania to re-state their commitment to playing at UTAS Stadium, which speaks volumes to the strength of our partnership.

I’m pleased that when the AFL fixture is released in coming weeks it will be able to include the Hawthorn games in Launceston throughout the year.

The Spirit of Tasmania partnership with the North Melbourne Football Club remains a matter for the TT-Line.
