The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is planning to conduct a hazard reduction burn in Bondi Gulf Nature Reserve just south of Bombala, beginning Friday March 29, weather permitting.

The planned 260 ha burn will take place along Goldfields Road and Kessers Road in the southern section of the reserve.

This area was not directly impacted by the fires of 2019–20, so it is important that this burn goes ahead to help protect residents from future bushfires.

This week’s burn will also help to maintain biodiversity and reduce naturally accumulated fuel loads in the area. Undertaking these planned, strategic burns in the right conditions will also provide firefighters with safe zones and access where they can defend properties should a bushfire occur.

The southern area of the nature reserve will be closed to visitors during burning operations.

Smoke may be visible from Bombala and properties neighbouring the reserve. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service thanks neighbours for their understanding.
