Help CHANGE kids eating habits with Jamie Oliver’s Learn Your Fruit & Veg Online Program

Back by popular demand! The Good Foundation, in collaboration with Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) CHANGE Project, will soon deliver Jamie Oliver’s Learn Your Fruit & Veg Online Program!

TRC Portfolio Leader for Environment and Community Services, Cr Tim McMahon said the program is the latest collaboration between the Good Foundation and Council’s CHANGE Project.

“The program delivers a hands-on cooking and food education experience for children aged 3 to 12 years,” Cr McMahon said.

“Over four consecutive days, children and their family members will cook along with a professional food trainer via live video chat.

“Jamie Oliver’s ‘Learn Your Fruit and Veg Program’ is designed to empower children to make healthier food choices.

“The program seeks to drive young people away from processed foods which compromise their ability to learn, grow and live a healthy life.

“Jamie Oliver’s Learn Your Fruit & Veg Online re-frames fresh food, teaching children about fruit and vegetables, including what they are, where they come from and how they affect their bodies.

“Participants will gain valuable life skills as they learn about the beauty of fresh, local, and seasonal foods and how to use these to create delicious dishes.

“Food trainers will discuss how food is grown, how to spot fresh options in the supermarket as well as cool facts about that fruit or vegetable. Kids might even learn about how tomatoes are grown in space!

“Each session focuses on a hero fruit or vegetable and brings that ingredient to life.

“Participants will learn to cook a non-heat Jamie Oliver recipe featuring a hero ingredient. It’s the perfect opportunity for families to spend some time together, get their hands messy and have fun in the kitchen.

Cr McMahon said research shows that when children are involved in the cooking process; they are more likely to choose healthier meals options for themselves in the future.

“The Good Foundation’s latest delicious scholastic serving comes just in time to discover some of the beautiful Spring fruits and vegetables that are common across our Region: Cabbage, Tomato, Celery and Pear,” Cr McMahon said.

“Jamie Oliver’s Learn Your Fruit & Veg Online Program will be a terrific September school holiday activity. “The program runs from 11.00 am to 11.30 am each day from Monday 28 September 2020 – Thursday 1 October 2020.

“The cost of the program is $20.00 for four 30-minute sessions. The CHANGE Project is also offering it to eligible groups ** for $5.00 for the four-day course.

“Previous programs booked-out within a week of being advertised, and positive feedback was received from participants in the program.
