Help Council develop its Graffiti Management Strategy 2020-24

Latrobe City Council is asking the community to help develop its four-year Graffiti Management Strategy by completing a short survey. Graffiti vandalism has many negative effects on the community including financial costs to ratepayers, as well as diminished community pride and perceived safety issues.

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Dan Clancey, said the survey would inform the ways in which Council would deal with reducing the incidence of graffiti in the municipality.

“Council is responsible for removing graffiti from its own assets including buildings, public toilets, street bins, seats and signs. Residents and commercial businesses also have to deal with the vandalism that occurs. The community want to see clean walls, buildings and street furniture. We want to feel safe in our own neighbourhoods. Graffiti impacts the capacity to enjoy the community we live in.”

The Strategy itself will look at processes for reporting, removing and preventing graffiti, as well as developing relationships with police, businesses, agencies and utilities.

“But the community is key. Your thoughts and ideas will help us get the framework right from the get-go. Taking five minutes to answer a few questions will give us an insight into how best to draw up our Strategy. We are hoping for a strong response to the survey to tackle this unacceptable community issue,” Cr Clancey said.
