Young people, their families, and services who work with young people are encouraged to have their say on the draft designs for Nillumbik’s first Youth Hub.
Council has received $300,000 under the Victorian Government’s Youth Hubs grant program 2022-23 to support the establishment of the first youth hub for the Shire, which will be matched by Council dollar for dollar.
The community facility located at 32-34 Elizabeth St, Diamond Creek will be redeveloped into a dedicated, stand-alone youth hub to provide centralised support for young people.
Nillumbik Mayor Ben Ramcharan said the Youth Hub will bring specialist youth services and programs to the Shire to support our young people and help tackle important issues including mental health, alcohol and other drugs, financial wellbeing, education, employment and training and social connection.
“This is a place for young people to call their own so we encourage people aged 12 – 25 to have a say in what your Youth Hub will look like. During the school holidays, we will be holding a Youth Hub Forum. Come along and find out more,” Cr Ramcharan said.
The draft concept plans include scope for a main entry and reception area, kitchen upgrade, large multi-purpose room, program and consulting rooms, office space and a covered outdoor area, however delivery of the complete works by June 2024 will be subject to securing additional funding for the project.
The Youth Hub Forum is happening on Wednesday 5 July. Young people are invited to check out the site of the Youth Hub and help shape what it will look like.
