Help guide Middle Island penguin conservation

If you have skills or experience in conservation management, coupled with an interest in penguins, Warrnambool City Council wants to hear from you.

Council is seeking to appoint a volunteer community representative to its Middle Island Project Committee.

The Middle Island Project and its committee are dedicated to preserving and restoring the small colony of Little Penguins on the island, which has found fame thanks to their unlikely protectors – maremma dogs.

“This is a great opportunity for someone to make a wonderful contribution to the community,” Warrnambool Mayor Cr Richard Ziegeler said

“It’s important that Council committees have a diversity of voices and expertise on them, including those representative of the wider community.

“The committee provides the strategy behind the project so the person we’re seeking will be someone who can review activities, strategy and policy documents relating to the Middle Island Project.

“The committee makes recommendations to Council about ongoing program operations including conservation techniques and management along with tourism and funding opportunities.”
