Helping Neighbourhood Houses with better security

Roger Jaensch,Minister for Human Services

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is the strongest supporter of Tasmania’s Neighbourhood Houses and the tremendous work they do in communities throughout the state.

In 2018 we made an election commitment of $150,000 over two years to help the Neighbourhood House network with safety and security upgrades.

Round two of the Neighbourhood Housing Security grants have just been decided making a total of 30 Neighbourhood Houses which have now been assisted.

It is anticipated that a third round of grants will open after Christmas and delivered before the end of 2019-20.

We would like to acknowledge the staff of peak body Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania, for the strong working relationship we have with them, their advocacy for this sector and for their assistance with the grant process.

In many cases the grants have gone towards installation of items such as security cameras, motion activated lights, better fencing locks and privacy blinds.

Neighbourhood Houses are at the heart of local communities and the Hodgman majority Liberal Government has invested in these grants to help ensure the safety and security of the highly valued staff and volunteers.
