On Wednesday 26 October in celebration of for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) will bring its Living well with breast cancer Information Forum to Rockhampton to help residents affected by breast cancer understand how they can access the best breast cancer care.
The Rockhampton Information Forum will welcome local people diagnosed with breast cancer and their supporters to come along to learn about the latest in breast cancer treatment, managing emotional wellbeing after diagnosis, and how to live well during treatment and beyond.
Kirsten Pilatti, BCNA CEO, says everyone diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia deserves to receive the best care, irrespective of where they live, how they identify, or their stage of diagnosis.
‘We have been traveling around the country this year to bring local support to people living in rural and regional areas because we know that the further away from a metropolitan city someone lives, the more challenges they experience accessing treatment and care for breast cancer,’ says Ms Pilatti.
‘We know that by providing people with the information and resources they need to make informed decisions everyone will be one step closer to accessing the best care available to them.’
There will be two concurrent information sessions throughout the day – one for people with early breast cancer and one for people with metastatic breast cancer.
Both sessions will ensure people in and around Rockhampton know about the local support available and are informed to make healthy lifestyle choices to promote wellness, manage treatment related side effects and enhance long-term health outcomes.
Guest speakers will include Medical Oncologist Dr Rebecca Moor, Oncology Social Worker Dr Carrie Lethborg, Breast Care Nurses Donna Wellington, Sally Haley (McGrath) and Carolanne Boland, Exercise Physiologist and BCNA member Karen Seymour and BCNA member Michelle Peters.
