Businesses like Forager Food Co are prime examples of what is possible when Tasmanian products are showcased at international trade shows and events.
Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Jo Palmer, said the Rockliff Liberal Government’s targeted trade missions has helped Forager Food Co unlock new markets.
“Forager Foods just shipped four full containers of products to Japan, with an additional two containers already booked for 2024,” Minister Palmer said.
“This export opportunity is a direct result of participating in FOODEX Japan and the Trade and Investment Mission to South Korea and Japan in March 2023.
“Tasmania has what the world wants when it comes to our exquisite produce, wine, whisky and many other products, so direct access to buyers and decision makers at trade shows can open up lucrative and growing markets.”
Forager Food Co.’s participation in the trade mission last year has sparked interest from buyers in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China, and Europe.
Jonty Barnett, director of Forager Food Co, said to meet increased demand, the company opened a new processing facility in Western Junction last year.
“We’ve just sent a third order to our Singapore distributor, who we met at a Trade Mission to Singapore in October 2022,” he said.
“We’re excited for the year ahead after locking in our largest ever export contract to the US and we plan to focus on expanding our range for national and international markets.”
The Rockliff Liberal Government supported Forager Food Co. to attend the South Korea and Japan Trade and Investment mission through the Accelerating Trade Grant Program.
Attending trade missions and trade events can generate significant benefits for Tasmanian businesses, and further showcase Tasmania’s world-class produce to the world.
Expressions of interest are open for Savour Tasmania, a premium inbound trade mission to Tasmania, from 29 July to 2 August 2024, and for Fine Food Australia, in Melbourne, from 2 to 5 September 2024.
“The Rockliff Liberal Government is delivering on its long-term plan to grow Tasmania’s export trade to $15 billion by 2050,” Minister Palmer said.
