High Range Speeding Offence, Western Downs

A motorist has been recorded driving 50 km/h over the speed limit at Guluguba in the Western Downs on Saturday, September 28.

Chinchilla Police recorded the Ford Territory on the mobile radar travelling along the Leichardt Highway at 150km/h in a 100km/h zone just before 6pm.

The 78-year-old man was issued a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h, worth $1,854 and eight demerit points.

Sergeant Isaiah Reich reminded motorists that arriving home late, is better than not arriving at all.

“It is not just your life that you are putting at risk, travelling at those kinds of speeds endangers the lives of every other person on the road,” Sergeant Reich said.

“Driving at a high speed reduces your reaction time and ability to stop quickly, and there can be catastrophic consequences as a result.”

The Queensland Police Service is committed to reducing the number of lives lost on our roads.

Data shows that serious crashes can be significantly reduced when drivers recognise and avoid the ‘Fatal Five’ behaviours: speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue and distraction.
