Hindmarsh Park Update

Kiama Council

3 dimensional render of projected Hindmarsh Park playground upgrade

Kiama Council’s contractor has begun removing the old play equipment at Hindmarsh Park, to make way for new equipment.

The new playground is the central feature of the $4.5 million project, which also includes new landscaping, pathways, shelters and seating, as well as an upgrade of the Orry Kelly stage.

The removal of the old play equipment, which is happening ahead of schedule, will allow our contractor to prepare the foundations for the new playground.

The new playground will feature:

  • Towers with rope climbing, bridges, slide and inclusive play elements
  • Inclusive trampoline, seesaw and carousel
  • Pod, basket and baby swings
  • Rope play, climbing wall and slides
  • Picnic furniture and shelters
  • Toddler play springers
  • Balance bull rushes
  • Sensory trail and balance walls

So far, our contractors have completed the upgrade of the Collins Street footpath, removed the old Terralong St seating and tables, and are preparing to install the replacement furniture.

Work is also progressing on the Orry Kelly stage, with the removal of the old shade structure, and preparations for the foundations for its replacement underway.

The project is expected to be complete in time for the October school holidays.

Funding for the Hindmarsh Park upgrade has been provided by the NSW Government, through the NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program, Stronger Country Communities Program and Active Transport Program.
