Homicide detectives have executed a crime scene warrant on an Inala residence in relation to the suspected death of a child 50 years ago.
A 76-year-old woman was charged with murder last night and appeared in the Richlands Magistrates Court this morning.
A homicide investigation commenced in August 2020 after police received information relating to the historical disappearance and suspected death of a three to four-year-old boy, Peter John Enright, from Inala between 1968 to 1970.
Homicide detectives, with assistance from Child Trauma Unit and Inala Child Protection Unit investigators, are currently conducting inquiries as part of Operation Sierra Bobcat.
Forensic officers, including bone experts, are assisting with the search of the Polaris Street property to enable a thorough scientific examination, utilising a ground penetrating radar.
Detective Inspector Damien Hansen of the Homicide Group urged anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
“Any death of a child is tragedy for all that are involved, Peter was just an innocent child. We are investigating all aspects of his life and care, including family dynamics.
“I urge anyone who lived on Polaris Street in Inala from 1960 – 1970 or had contact with the Enright family or remember Peter to contact police. Any piece of information, no matter how small, can have a significant impact on our investigation,” Detective Inspector Hansen said.
