Homicide Squad charge man following investigation into alleged murder of Erin Mullavey – Merrylands

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a man following an investigation into the murder of Merrylands woman Erin Mullavey.

About 11.30pm on Sunday 9 April 2023, emergency services were called to a unit on Newman Street in Merrylands, after a concern for welfare report.

On arrival, officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command located the body of a 42-year-old woman suffering fatal stab wounds.

She has since been identified as Erin Mullavey.

Local police commenced inquiries, before State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Trevelyan.

Following extensive inquiries, about 10am today (Tuesday 25 July 2023), strike force detectives attended Auburn Police Station, where they arrested and charged a 32-year-old man with murder.

The man was remanded in custody to appear before Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 26 July 2023).

Police will allege in court, on the night of the murder, the man – who is known to Erin – attended her Merrylands apartment after a conflict had escalated and attacked her with a bladed instrument.

It is further alleged the man fled the scene on foot, before getting on a black and red mountain bike.

As he fled, it’s believed the man discarded the clothes he was wearing, including a grey hooded jumper with a distinctive logo on the back.
