Homicide Squad detectives have released further CCTV vision as investigations continue into the death of a man in Sydney’s south-west earlier this year.
About 2.40am on Sunday 10 January 2021, emergency services were called to Ware Street, Fairfield, following reports a man had been shot.
Despite efforts to revive the man, he died at the scene.
He has since been identified as 34-year-old Amar Kettule.
Later that day, a dark-coloured Jeep Cherokee – believed to be used in the shooting – was found burnt-out at Reserve Street in Smithfield.
Initial inquiries were conducted by officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command, before the matter was referred to the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, who commenced an investigation under Strike Force Fitzhill.
As part of ongoing inquiries, detectives have released further CCTV vision of two men seen in the vicinity of Ware Street around the time of the shooting.
The men depicted are described as wearing black pants and black hooded jackets. One of the men appears to have a face covering and is wearing dark-coloured shoes. The other man is wearing white sneakers.
Detectives have also released CCTV vision of a white Toyota Corolla hatchback which was captured in Reserve Street at Smithfield about 8.15pm the same day.
Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, said investigators are appealing for anyone who recognises the two people and/or the hatchback, to come forward and contact police.
“We believe the hatchback was used to pick up the men in Reserve Street after the Jeep Cherokee was abandoned and burnt-out after the murder,” Det Supt Doherty said.
“Anyone who may’ve seen the two men, or the vehicle depicted in the CCTV in the area at time, is urged to contact police.
“This violent, brazen attack was carried out in the driveway of a suburban home, and I implore the public to come forward to police and help us identify those responsible,” Det Supt Doherty said.
Investigations under Strike Force Fitzhill are continuing.
