I’m working with world leaders at APEC this week. Here’s why it matters

Labor Party

What happens around the world matters to Australia.

This week at APEC, I’ll be working with world leaders to address issues that impact every Australian.

Inflation is a global issue, and we’ll be working to tackle its root causes including supply chain issues and instability. Taking pressure off Australian households is our top priority.

One in four Australian jobs rely on trade, and export industries are higher paid on average. We’ll be working with our partners to boost trade, delivering new jobs at home.

No one country can solve climate change alone. I’ll be advancing Australia’s interests when it comes to practical action on climate change.

Engaging with world leaders on security across our region is vital. All Australians benefit from stability in the Indo-Pacific.

Every conversation I’ll be having will focus on getting results for Australians, including with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida, Thai Prime Minister Srettha, and Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau.

Since we took office, we’ve made serious, sustained and consistent international engagement a priority.

And we’re getting results for jobs and the economy, for security, as well as for trade and prosperity.

Whether it’s the stabilising of our relationship with China, the lifting of China’s trade impediments, or progressing the AUKUS agreement, they are all delivering benefits for Australian industry and security.

This week I’m continuing to work hard on building a better future for all Australians.
