Increased investment boost for arts sector

The Rockliff Liberal Government will invest more than $1.66 million into Tasmania’s arts sector through our latest round of grants programs for arts organisations.

Twenty-two Tasmanian arts organisations will share in funding through three programs: Arts Organisations – annual programs, Organisations – Youth arts, and Organisations – projects.

Minister for Arts, Madeleine Ogilvie said the Government is committed to investing in Tasmania’s vibrant cultural and creative industries.

“Our sustained support and investment is critical to the vibrancy of the sector and generates opportunities for artists, arts workers and Tasmanian audiences,” Minister Ogilvie said.

“I love to see our artists and arts organisations creating, being innovative and providing cultural opportunities for all Tasmanians.”

“The Rockliff Liberal Government continues its long-standing support of the arts, which are essential to the rich cultural fabric of our State, and which provide joy and inspiration to so many.

“The diversity and high quality of our Tasmanian arts and cultural scene serves as a significant magnet for the tourism sector and our visitor economy.

“Our latest investment will support 22 of our State’s arts organisations to deliver diverse activities in 2024 and enable audiences in some of Tasmania’s regional communities to experience high quality arts events and activities.

“This funding is in addition to our multi-year program, which will provide more than $2.1 million to a further 11 organisations to deliver arts activities in 2024.”

Organisations to receive support through the latest funding round include:

* Archipelago Productions will receive $53,270 to deliver a tour of Past the Shallows to Hobart, Launceston and Devonport, supporting professional theatre opportunities for more than 35 Tasmanian artists and arts workers. The funding and will also provide discounted tickets for more than 130 Tasmanian students. School audiences will be able to access a new and comprehensive ‘Teacher’s toolkit’ as part of the project.

* West coast-based organisation PressWEST, led by esteemed Tasmanian artist Raymond Arnold, will receive $56,260 to deliver a 2024 program of artist exchanges on the west coast.

* King Island Council will receive $23,400 to enhance their Artist Residency Program. The program shares professional opportunities for Tasmanian artists to collaborate with national artists, bringing to the community intensive and practical workshops, and will deliver a major exhibition and roving installation of works.

* The Huon Valley’s Terror Australis Readers and Writers Festival will use its grant of $10,784 to support 20 young writers to complete a nine-month creative writing development program.

* The recently formed Lutruwita Orchestra will receive $200,000 for a program of performances, recordings and workshops for over 20 musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds, genders and abilities.

Funding recommendations were made by expert peers drawn from the Cultural and Creative Industries Expert Register.
