Independent National Security Legislation Monitor appointed

Attorney-General Christian Porter today announced the substantive appointment of Mr Grant Donaldson SC as Australia’s fourth Independent National Security Legislation Monitor (INSLM).

Mr Donaldson has been acting INSLM since July 2020 while preparatory arrangements for his permanent appointment were made.

The INSLM independently reviews the operation, effectiveness and implications of Australia’s national security and counter terrorism laws.

Mr Donaldson brings a wealth of legal and public policy expertise to the role. He served as the Solicitor-General for Western Australia from 2012 to 2016. Mr Donaldson has held senior leadership positions in the Western Australian Bar Association and the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia.

The Attorney-General congratulated Mr Donaldson on his appointment.
