Cr Jenny O’Connor has been returned as Mayor of Indigo Shire Council for a further 12 months with new Councillor, Peter Croucher elected Deputy Mayor.

The election of the two Councillors to lead the organisation was unanimous with neither challenged for the positions at tonight’s Statutory Council Meeting.

Cr O’Connor says she’s thrilled to again take on the role of Mayor and thanked her fellow councillors for their confidence in her and also in Councillor Croucher who she says will make a great Deputy.

She says among Council’s many priorities is to continue to support local businesses to recover from the devastating impacts of both bushfires and COVID-19.

“I will continue to use all means available to me to advocate for our shire and to ensure that our communities are not forgotten and that we can access all available funding and resources to help us rebuild and recover.”

Cr O’Connor says as with any new Council, a new four-year Council Plan will need to be developed early in the new year, setting out the objectives and actions to be achieved during this council term.

“Development of the Council Plan and Community Vision will be done in collaboration with our community and I look forward to sharing more details on how everyone in the Shire can be involved in this process,” Cr O’Connor said.

Cr Croucher, who returns to Council after a four-year absence says he’s very excited to again be representing the people of Indigo Shire and in particular being a voice for the Kiewa-Tangambalanga community.
