In celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March, two guest authors, Hazel Edwards OAM and Karen Mills will be at a special Campaspe Libraries event.

Australian author, speaker and literacy ambassador Hazel Edwards OAM writes for all ages and has published over 220 books across a range of subjects and genres ranging from young adult fiction, adult mysteries, non-fiction and writing guides. Ms Edwards is best known for her children’s book ‘There’s a Hippopotamus on Our Roof Eating Cake’ which evolved into a series of seven ‘Hippo’ picture books, inspired a junior chapter book, classroom play scripts, a musical stage production and a short movie.

Also appearing will be local writer, poet, artist and researcher Karen Mills. Mrs Mills will be speaking about Edel Wignell, the author who inspired her to self-publish her first book ‘Precious Artwork’. Mrs Mills is also the president of the Campaspe Murray Writers group, which meets monthly at the Echuca Library.

Campaspe Shire Mayor Rob Amos said Council is honoured to be a platform for female authors on International Women’s Day, providing our community with the opportunity to engage with stories that reflect the diverse experiences and achievements of women.

“Welcoming these exceptional women authors to our library not only celebrates their literary contributions but also highlights the importance of fostering a culture that champions women’s voices and stories,” Mayor Amos said.

Books will be available for sale courtesy of Collins Booksellers and both authors will sign purchased copies for attendees. This is a free event, with afternoon tea provided but bookings are essential for seating and catering purposes.
