A nearly $15 million, state-of-the-art policing facility has been officially opened at Inverell today.
NSW Police Force Commissioner Mick Fuller APM and Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, joined a number of other dignitaries at a public ceremony to unveil the new police station today (Monday 17 May 2021).
Construction of Inverell Police Station began in 2020, with the station becoming fully operational in April 2021.
The facility incorporates custody facilities with charge docks and cells, has new workspaces for general duties police, investigators, the Dog Unit, Traffic and Highway Patrol, prosecutors, and forensics.
The new station also features a legacy walk at the front of the station, where members of the community can pay their respects to past and present members of the NSW Police Force.
NSW Commissioner Michael Fuller APM welcomed the new state-of-the-art police station.
“This is a major investment in the crime fighting capabilities in the New England Police District,” Commissioner Fuller said.
“Fitted with state-of-the-art technology and fixtures, Inverell Police Station will give police the support they need to continue to drive down crime and keep the community safe.
New England Police District Commander, Superintendent Steve Laksa, said the new police station is an asset that provides privacy and security to the community when reporting crime.
Supt Laksa said the new station is a purpose-built modern facility that supports the response to major incidents and emergencies which is enhanced using technology.
“The new station includes modern facilities that enables officers to attend virtual training sessions exposing them to training in a more cost effective and efficient manner,” he said.
“These virtual facilities also allow officers across the New England Police District to meet daily to receive intelligence driven taskings and remain contemporary to emerging crime trends and issues.
“Prior to the construction of this new station, officers attached to Inverell worked in numerous buildings on the police site. This new building puts them all under one roof which enhances productivity and creates a supportive team environment.”
The redevelopment of Inverell Police Station stems from the 2018/19 commitment for Multipurpose Police Station Program of capital works investment of $107.86m.
Multipurpose stations support smaller regional and metropolitan stations and deliver front line policing services.
The new Inverell Police Station will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
