Investigations underway after man shot dead in South Wentworthville

Investigations are underway after a man was shot dead in South Wentworthville today.

About 12.45pm (Thursday 6 January 2022), emergency services responded to Rawson Road at the intersection of the Great Western Highway, following reports a man was located injured in a vehicle parked on the street.

On arrival, NSW Ambulance paramedics assisted the 35-year-old man; however, he died at the scene.

Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command are at the scene and have commenced investigations.

Initial inquiries have indicated a vehicle, which was found alight nearby on Una and Smith Streets, South Wentworthville, is related to the incident.

Crime scenes have been established at both locations, which will be examined by specialist forensic officers.

A number of roads, including Rawson Road and two westbound lanes on the Great Western Highway, are closed and motorists are urged to avoid the area. Check www.livetraffic.com for more information.
