It’s show time: FRINGE is back to delight summer audiences

  • FRINGE WORLD Festival returns to WA from 19 January to 18 February 2024
  • Cook Government supporting 2024 festival with additional $1.5 million Lotterywest grant
  • $2.9 million funding commitment from State Government to secure FRINGE’s future, and continue the festival in 2025, 2026 and 2027
  • More than $15 million in Lotterywest grants have supported FRINGE since 1994

The FRINGE WORLD Festival will return in 2024, with the Cook Government providing a significant funding boost to help deliver more than 500 events this summer.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to delight in performances across comedy, cabaret, dance, circus and theatre as part of the 2024 festival, which will run from 19 January to 18 February.

The Cook Government will provide an additional $1.5 million, through Lotterywest, to FRINGE to support its 2024 season, which includes FRINGE Sunday Funday and a free community event that will bring families together for a fun-filled day with live entertainment. This brings the total support through Lotterywest for the 2024 festival to $2.7 million.

Additional Lotterywest support has been provided in response to challenges faced in recent years due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lotterywest’s support is enabling FRINGE to bring world-class performances to Western Australia, including new show, Fruits de la Passion, that features heart-pounding dance acts. Families will be able to enjoy Dinosaur Time Machine, which will give them a chance to get up close and personal with a life-sized T-Rex.

To secure FRINGE WORLD’s future in WA, the Cook Government has also committed $2.9 million in new funding to enable the staging of the popular festival in 2025, 2026 and 2027.

In addition, $350,000 has been provided through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries to support ARTRAGE to deliver the event in 2024 and plan for 2025.

Since 1994, Lotterywest has provided more than $15 million to ARTRAGE, which delivers FRINGE WORLD Festival each year.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

“There will be something for everyone at FRINGE 2024, which I have no doubt will be another terrific event.

“FRINGE WORLD Festival is one of the pillars of the WA festival season, bringing together communities from across Western Australia and beyond.

“My Government is proud to provide a total of $2.7 million through Lotterywest this year to boost Western Australians’ access to the arts and support Western Australian creative and artistic talent, as well as $2.9 million in State Government funding to secure FRINGE’s future in WA.

“WA is so fortunate to be home to this iconic summer event – I encourage everyone to experience FRINGE and get along to one of the hundreds of events on offer.”

As stated by Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:

“Fringe is a fantastic time of fun and vibrancy in Western Australia and I am so pleased that the Cook Government has been able to increase funding to make it happen.

“If you are wondering what to buy someone for Christmas, a ticket to one of the plethora of events at Fringe should be just the ticket.”
