JACET Charges – Child Abuse – Southport

Northern Territory (NT) Police have arrested a 32-year-old man in relation to child sex offences in Southport yesterday.

Detectives from NT Police and Australian Federal Police (AFP) Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team executed a search warrant at the man’s residence yesterday afternoon, locating two laptops and an external hard drive that contained child abuse material.

The man has been remanded and will face court today.

He has been charged with:

  • Possess or control child abuse material x 2 (Cth)
  • Access child abuse material (Cth)
  • Make available child abuse material (Cth)
  • Possess child abuse material (NT)
  • Possess schedule 2 – less than traffickable (NT)
  • Possess thing to administer dangerous drug (NT)

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Jon Beer said, “AFP and NT Police continue to work together closely to ensure those participating in this type of behaviour are identified and dealt with quickly. This type of behaviour isn’t acceptable within our community, or any in fact.”

AFP Detective Sergeant Richard Matejic said “The AFP, together with its state and territory law enforcement partners, remain committed to protecting our community’s most vulnerable – our children.

“Anyone who views this material is participating in the harming of a child, and helping to prop up a vile industry that will abuse more children to satisfy the demand,” he said.

Members of the public who have any information about people involved in child abuse and exploitation are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or NT Police on 131 444.
