Jacinta Allan trying to muzzle witnesses at Commonwealth Games Inquiry

Liberal Party Victoria

Premier Jacinta Allan has been caught out trying to muzzle witnesses in the inquiry into the $600 million Commonwealth Games debacle.

The Premier has written to the select committee investigating the debacle claiming executive privilege over evidence, meaning a range of witnesses would be protected from disclosure.

The select committee has issued asummons for all briefs provided to ministers responsible for the Department of Premier and Cabinet, the Department of Treasury and Finance, the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions, and their predecessors.

Leader of the Opposition, John Pesutto, said: “It’s bad enough that Jacinta Allan humiliated Victoria by cancelling the Commonwealth Games without now trying to cover up the mess.

“She needs to cooperate with the inquiry and do everything in her powers to ensure the Victorians find out the truth about this $600 million debacle.”

Shadow Minister for Tourism, Sport and Events, Sam Groth, said: “Jacinta Allan should not be interfering with the inquiry. If anything, she should be fronting up to explain her role in the debacle.

“At the very least she needs to agree to release key documents and allow witnesses to appear before the inquiry and give evidence about what happened.”
