Kiama Council has advised that repairs to Jamberoo Mountain Road are progressing but will not commence before Christmas 2022, as originally hoped.
Plans for the road repairs are currently out to tender (closing 2 December) and Council’s Director of Engineering and Works Mike Dowd said the tender panel’s recommendation of a contractor to undertake the works is expected to go up to the December Ordinary Meeting.
The decision on the tender will be held in confidential session for commercial in confidence reasons.
Once a contractor is appointed, repair works are likely to start early in the new year and expected to take several months.
The delay is due to the complexity of the repairs required and the number of sites – with damage to four separate areas of the road.
In the meantime, Council is working proactively with local residents to minimise impacts of the road closure, including allowing only those who live directly on the road limited access to their properties. Residents will not be allowing other road users to traverse the road.
All residents and road users are reminded Jamberoo Mountain Road remains closed as it is unstable, severely damaged and not fit for general traffic.
The road closure is between Misty Lane and The Abbey.
Council has written to the NSW Government to seek the reclassification of Jamberoo Mountain Road as a state road.
